'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' star visits students

Spartan alumnus Noah Weisberg visited Glenbrook North choir classes on Oct. 11 to discuss the students’ various interests and goals, as well as lend a few tips on topics such as audition etiquette.

Weisberg, a GBN graduate, has performed in four Broadway shows including “Legally Blonde” and “Elf.” He is now starring in the lead role of Willy Wonka in the national tour of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago. The show opened Oct. 2 and runs through Oct. 21 before it continues to tour the country.

Although he has been performing since the age of 9, Weisberg said the road to a lead role has not always been easy.

“Most of the job [of an actor] is being told ‘no,’” he said. “It took me years to land my first Broadway show.”

Weisberg majored in musical theatre at New York University. Aside from choir and theatre, he was involved in speech at GBN, and was even part of the group that founded the Ow! acapella group.

“Your job at an audition is to do exactly what you already know how to do, and what you love to do, which is perform.” he told the students. “I challenge you to bring your own freedom and silliness and uniqueness to your next audition.”
