Tune in to Universal Kids at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 to see Glenbrook North freshman Ann Slivken test her skills on American Ninja Warrior Junior.
Slivken cannot remember a time that she hasn’t pushed her athleticism.
“I’ve been climbing on everything, literally everything, since I was really young,” she said. “That’s what got me into gymnastics, and then I became interested in rock climbing about four years ago.”
Watching the adult version of the show with her family, Slivken learned that a “Junior” league was coming and auditioned right away. She had been training at Ultimate Ninjas in Libertyville every week and had even advanced the to gym’s Elite Team.
“The audition process involved a lot of paperwork and two videos – one was an athletic video of me doing obstacles and the other was a more personal video about myself,” she said.
Of the more than 10,000 applicants, 60 were taken per age group. Slivken competed with fellow 13- and 14-year olds. Filming took place in Los Angeles this past July.
How did she do?
“I can’t tell until the show airs!” Slivken exclaimed with a smirk.
Hoping to audition for the adult show when she’s 19, Slivken continues to train at her ninja gym and competes on the GBN gymnastics team. Her favorite school subject is Physics, as one might be able to tell from her NASA T-shirts.
