Final Exams
Glenbrook North High School's final exams occur over four days at the end of each semester.
Each day includes two 90-minute exam blocks with a 15-minute break.
Students must be present for classes where exams are required. For blocks, when students do not have an exam, they can leave campus or remain in one of the designated quiet study areas.
Bus routes will run on their regular pick-up schedule these days, and a modified drop-off schedule will depart from GBN at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Additional Information
Each student must complete semester evaluations according to administrative guidelines. Permitting deviations from established evaluation dates and time is not within a teacher's prerogative.
Attendance
Students are required to only attend during their classes designated time. Students who do not have a scheduled exam can stay on campus in designated areas, including a department resource center, cafeteria or the library. All hallways, except student centers, are closed during exam periods.
Each exam is 90 minutes, and students must stay in their testing room for the entire period. We recommend students bring study materials to use when they have completed the exam before the end of the exam period.
In the rare instance that a student needs to change an exam date, students should contact the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction to discuss options.
Makeup and Extended Time Exams
Students can schedule makeup exams with their individual teacher for any time between noon and 1:30 p.m., or at another approved time. Extended-time exams are available each exam day from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Bookstore
During first-semester exams, the bookstore will only accept buybacks for students graduating in January. All other buybacks will occur at the end of the school year.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria will open daily for breakfast, grab-and-go snacks and lunches until 1 p.m.
Bus Schedule
During our final exam week, buses will pick up students at their usual time and on a modified schedule for drop-off. Buses will leave GBN at 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.
Second semester final exams will take place during regulary scheduled class periods on Tuesday, May 28 (Gold Day), and Wednesday, May 29 (Green Day). Students not scheduled for a final exam are not expected to attend class. If a student does not attend a final exam because of an unexcused absence will receive an "F" grade.
If a senior student has three or four finals on one day, the student may request a change in the last final of the day by contacting the Associate Principal of Teaching and Learning. Upon the approval of the request, the student must contact the teacher and coordinate a new time for the make-up exam.
Final Exam Policy
A senior student with an 80% semester average in a given course may have the option of waiving the final. The only attendance requirement is no unexcused absences including out-of-school suspensions.
By the nature of the course, if a final exam is deemed critical to a fair assessment of the student’s work, the student must take the final exam whether or not the condition above has been met. The instructor(s) of the course, instructional supervisor, and principal (or designee) make this decision.
Students in classes in which a final may be waived will be notified one week prior to senior finals if their performance meets the criteria stated above. In order to maintain their exempt status, students must continue to meet the criteria through the last day of senior attendance.
Returning Loaned Materials
The bookstore will be open from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May 31, 2024, for students to return loaned items. All items with a gold barcode be returned to to the Bookstore and cannot be left with the courses teacher or left in the classroom.
