Requirements to Enter the Building for Testing

For National test administrations all students testing at Glenbrook North (referred to as the testing center below), regardless of home school, must meet and abide by the following criteria: 

If you violate any of these conditions you will be removed from the testing site. 

Stand By Testers will be admitted on a first come first served basis. These students will check in with staff and receive a number upon arrival. As there are openings we will assign the standby students to classrooms. 
 

 Please note that you must register for the ACT before an accommodations request can be submitted.

1. Step 1: Obtain and review the following: 
   1. Test Dates and Deadlines Sheet (listed below)
2. Step 2: Register online (www.actstudent.org). You must check the box to indicate testing with accommodations. Select National Testing or Special Testing accommodations based on your current testing accommodations.  Make payment.
   1. Forward the request for accommodations email from ACT to Maddy Bumbaris (mbumbaris@glenbrook225.org)
3. Step 3: Complete forms. Gather all necessary documentation pertaining to your request.
4. Step 4: Complete the ACT Request for Accommodations google form by the applicable deadline.

Once accommodations are submitted it will be reviewed and a decision will be made in 2-8 weeks. You will receive an email when the decision is made. Please forward that email to mbumbaris@glenbrook225.org.  Bumbaris will send a copy of the decision letter to you.

*If approved, you will not need to complete the forms again, however, you must email Maddy Bumbaris a registration confirmation for each test date.

Please note you need to apply for accommodations before registering for your test.

   2. 2024-25 College Board Student Testing Accommodations Consent Form  
2.  Gather all necessary documentation.
3. Complete the Google form linked below. If you have any supporting documentation that you would like to include with the request, you will need to submit copies. 
   1. College Board Accommodations Request 
4.  After accommodations are approved you may register - you must make sure to confirm you will be using your accommodations during the test
   1. National SAT: Register online/complete payment at: sat.org/register 
   2. PSAT/NMSQT: Students will register and pay for the tests through GBN Bookstore or Powerschool (Registration open in August)
   3. AP Testing: Students will register as outlined, and pay GBN

Once accommodations are submitted it will be reviewed and a decision will be made in 2-8 weeks. You will receive a copy of the decision letter in the mail to your home address. Please inform Ms. Bumbaris when this arrives.
If accommodations are approved, testing accommodations will automatically apply on all College Board exams including all standardized PSAT, AP, & SAT exams. Please click here for student and family tips from College Board.
Please note: If your accommodations are updated you will need to reach out to Maddy Bumbaris (MBumbaris@glenbrook225.org) to ensure the updates are added to your College Board account.

College Board

EL supports are available for the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and SAT School Day assessments. EL supports are not currently available for the PSAT/NMSQT, AP, CLEP, ACCUPLACER, or the weekend administrations of the SAT. The available supports include the use of an approved word-to-word bilingual dictionary, translated test directions, and time and one-half (+50%). Students will receive college and scholarship reportable scores when any of the supports are used.

Accommodations for State testing will be applied for in your English EL class. 

• Students who meet the following criteria at the time of testing are eligible to use EL supports:
  • Enrolled in an elementary or secondary school in the U.S. or U.S. territories
  • An English learner as defined by their state or by federal policy
  • Use the same supports in class or for other assessments
• Use of an approved word-to-word bilingual dictionary:
  • The list of approximately 100 approved dictionaries is available Here.
  • The use of a bilingual dictionary does not require approval by College Board.
• Use of translated test directions:
  • Translated test directions are provided in PDF format. Schools must print the directions for students; no printed test directions will be sent to schools.
  • Translated directions are available in numerous languages. See the links below for specific languages offered.
  • Use of translated test directions does not require approval by College Board.
  • Translations are usually available to print online at the following links in August for fall testing and February for spring testing.
    • Paper-Based directions.
    • Computer-Based directions are available at cb.org/DigitalEL.
• Use of time and one-half (+50%):
  • This EL support must be entered in the SSD Online by the EL deadline. While documentation does not need to be submitted to College Board, schools will be asked during the submission process to verify the student meets certain criteria. For schools testing as a part of a state contract, check with your state for additional updates on the use of supports/accommodations for EL students.
  • Students will receive time and one-half (+50%) on each section of the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, or SAT School Day. Students must sit for the entire time allotted and cannot go ahead in the test, even if they are the only one testing.
  • EL students requiring EL time and one-half (+50%) will need to be identified in SSD Online every year.
  • Schools can request EL time and one-half (+50%) for English learners starting in January for spring testing.
     

ACT

The following Documentation is needed to submit a request for English Learner Supports for ACT tests. Please note that EL supports are subject to the same deadlines as Special testing accommodation requests for ACT.

English Learner Accommodations Request Form for ACT
 

Please note that ACT and College Board have strict guidelines for documentation that is required to be included with a request for accommodations. They review each request on a case-by-case basis and there is no guarantee that they will approve your student. The links below provide extensive details regarding the documentation needed for specific diagnoses.

Per College Board and ACT, without providing all of the documentation described, it is likely that your child will not be approved for the requested accommodation(s). Note that since your child does not currently have a school-based plan and/or is not receiving the requested accommodation(s) in the school setting, an explanation must be provided from an outside professional, tutor and/or parent for why the accommodations are necessary at this time. The burden for providing documentation rests with the family.
