INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT 161 (FCE16100N)

This course teaches growth and development from the prenatal stage through the school-aged years. Topics such as families, role of the parent/caregiver, pregnancy, childbirth and health and safety will be covered throughout the semester. The students will also work in the GBN Preschool as teacher assistants. They will have the opportunity to earn the ECE Level 1 Credential while enrolled in this course.

EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS 261 (FCE26100N)

In the Educational Foundations course students will learn to master teaching skills in planning, creating, teaching and evaluating all areas of the early childhood curriculum. Students will work in groups as teachers in the GBN Preschool all semester along with a focused study on the 3-5 year old child. Students find this class to be extremely valuable in college when studying education, psychology and any other child related field.
PREREQUISITE: Introduction to Human Growth & Development 161
Dual Credit: In addition to high school credit, three college credits in early childhood may also be obtained through Oakton Community College. A one-time application fee of $25 is required if students elect to receive college credit.
ADVANCED EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS 361 (FCE36100N)

This advanced course provides the student the opportunity to apply the concepts learned in Educational Foundations while continuing to teach in the GBN Preschool. Students will utilize various forms of educational technology, learn classroom management, and complete a case study project. A variety of preschool experiences will be explored and experienced both inside and outside of the classroom.
PREREQUISITE: Educational Foundations: Introduction to Teaching 261.
TEACHING INTERNSHIP 461 (FCE46100N)
GRADE: 11,12 LENGTH: 1 Sem CREDIT: .50 GPA: All Subject
Students enrolled in this course should have an interest in working with children and may explore careers in the field of education, psychology and social services. Students will become teacher aides and will be working closely with local elementary or junior high school teachers to carry out a variety of classroom tasks and activities. Students must be able to make arrangements for transportation to off-campus sites. Course may be repeated with instructor approval.

This course is for students who are interested in the Fashion and/or Interior Design fields. This class includes many hands-on activities related to design elements and principles, color theory, trends, visual displays and career opportunities. A digital portfolio of activities and projects will be developed during the course to showcase the student achievements. Students will experience client based scenarios in both fashion design and floor planning. Opportunities to attend and/or participate in fashion shows, competitions and retail tours are course highlights! PREREQUISITE: None

This course is designed for beginning students interested in Fashion. This class will introduce students to working with sewing machines, and students will work independently throughout the semester on projects showcasing their creativity. Psychology for Living discusses today's problems of interpersonal and family relationships. The class focuses on teen issues that students may face currently or as they head to college. Interactive discussions feature guest speakers, literature, and films that revolve around teen issues including: AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, depression and suicide, death and grief, eating disorders, and drugs and alcohol.
