Jazz at GBN
The Glenbrook North Band program has two curricular jazz ensembles that meet during early bird at 7:05am every day. Jazz can be taken as a 9th class if students are taking two electives. Both ensembles run at the same time every morning at 7:05am. Lab rehearses in E103 and Ensemble rehearses in E101.
Jazz Lab
This Glenbrook North Jazz Lab is open to all jazz musicians who either have or have not had experience in jazz band before. We cover a variety of literature, including swing, funk, rock, latin, blues, and ballads. In this ensemble, students develop their skills as individual musicians and as soloists. The ensemble performs at three concerts per year and performs in the annual North Shore Jazz Festival.
Note: all students are welcome in jazz band. Flute, clarinet, and oboe players double on saxophone. Horn players double on trumpet and all low brass will play trombone.
Jazz Ensemble
The Glenbrook North Jazz Ensemble is open to admittance by audition, which will take place in the fall. Students in Jazz Ensemble are proficient on their instrument and are comfortable soloing. The Jazz Ensemble plays a variety of literature and performs in three concerts each year, in addition to the North Shore Jazz Festival.
