Daily class work involves journal writing, vocabulary and spelling, grammar, and novel reading.

The purpose of this course is to partner students with other students with disabilities to develop a mutually beneficial, caring relationship. The peer mentor will assist the student with special needs to further develop academic
and/or social skills. Peer mentors are placed into both regular and special education (DLS or TLS) classrooms. Students are required to attend regularly, participate in periodic discussion groups and will be evaluated by the
assigned teacher. PREREQUISITE: Recommendation of teacher and school counselor, with final approval of peer mentor sponsor.

Reading Strategies is offered to the student currently below grade level in reading. An individualized diagnostic reading intervention plan, considering strengths and weaknesses, is developed for each student. Strategies to

Emphasis is placed on developing skills to meet the individual learning needs of students as identified in their Individualized Education Plans as well as on facilitating the transfer of these skills to academic areas. This course earns .5

This course is designed to be a comprehensive survey of various art techniques, styles, and artists. Students will be learning the use of many art media, including watercolors, pastels, oil paint, computer, and colored pencils, as well as gaining knowledge of impressionism, abstraction, expressionism, commercial art and mosaics. Students will be encouraged to expand their art knowledge, and appreciate and try different art styles and techniques over the course

The purpose of Driver Education is to develop citizens who will be competent and responsible users of the highway transportation system. Driver Education grades are given for the classroom and laboratory phases separately, although
the phases are taught concurrently. Classroom Phase: The classroom phase is required by state law. State law
requires a minimum of thirty (30) clock hours of attendance in the classroom phase in order to complete the course.
Laboratory Phase: State law requires a minimum of six (6) clock hours or its equivalent of attendance in order to complete the course. The lab phase is taken concurrently with the classroom phase. This course is spread over two
semesters in order to give students more practice time.

This course is designed for the students to explore new activities while developing an attitude that participation in physical activities can lead to a lifetime of recreational fun and healthy living. Basic skills and physical fitness necessary

Independent Study is designed to offer the opportunity for students to take or make up a variety of courses that they may have failed or have had difficulty in scheduling. Students work independently on coursework with instruction

The course combines government, politics and current events. Throughout the year, we will examine the three branches of government, the roles of political parties and interest groups, voting behavior, elections and public

This course provides students in the DLS program with personal management skills in both the educational system and in the community. Personal Management assists students in developing the skills essential to become productive and independent citizens. Students will gain practical knowledge and skills in the areas of self-awareness, self-care, budgeting, consumer education, vocational options and recreation and leisure. This course will also involve community service and several field trips providing hands on experience in order to generalize the skills learned in class. Coursework focuses on skill acquisition at the student’s individual level rather than at his or her year in school. A job coach is available to assist students in finding and maintaining a job. Recommended for freshmen and sophomores.

This course provides students in the DLS program with instruction on career exploration, job readiness skills, and other life skills important for becoming productive members of the workforce. Emphasis will be placed on achieving success and well-being in professional lives.
Students are presented with a range of information regarding vocations and given tools to assess their own career interests. Career Exploration will also involve community service, job shadowing, and several field trips providing hands on experience in order to generalize the skills learned in class. This course provides an opportunity for students to apply classroom vocational skills to a school-based job site or competitive community employment situation. Students taking this course are recommended to have an on campus or community based job experience. A job coach is available to assist students in finding and maintaining a job. Student job skills will be evaluated by staff and employer, as well as student self-evaluations. Recommended for sophomores through seniors.

POST SECONDARY EXPLORATION (TDV17300N)

This course is designed for students within the DLS program and is an advanced level class in a sequence pertaining to transition. The class will focus on exploration of post-secondary options, including education, vocational skills, careers, self-advocacy, housing, community access, independent living, and IEP awareness. Post-Secondary Exploration will also involve community service, job shadowing, and several field trips providing hands on experience in order to generalize the skills learned in class. The philosophy of this class is to design activities and simulations based on individual goals. Students taking this course are recommended to have an on campus or community based job experience. A job coach is available to assist students in finding and maintaining a job. Student job skills will be evaluated by staff and employer, as well as student self-evaluations.
