Chamber Groups

Chamber Ensemble’s focus is on small group music making. Students will be grouped in like instrument ensembles and rehearse and perform music throughout the year. Students will have opportunities to practice musical leadership, as primary feedback will be provided from student to student, with a teacher providing guidance and coaching to the ensemble.

Color Guard

What is Color Guard?
Color guard is a co-ed activity comprised of students from all grade levels (9-12) that uses flags, rifles, sabers, and other props, along with dance movements choreographed to the music of the Marching Spartans as well as contemporary music. Members get the opportunity to perform alongside the marching band at their performances, as well as the Variety Show and the Pride Assembly.

What if I've never done Color Guard before?
That’s okay! Anyone interested in the performing arts can excel in the color guard program! Many different backgrounds can meld together to become one performing unit. Our team this past year consisted of students with backgrounds in Ice Skating, Dancing, Cheerleading, Acting, Music, Speech, and various other performing entities. So, all types of people are welcome to try out!

The Theatre/Drama Club is committed to supporting and learning about all things pertaining to theatre. The focus of this group is on both artistic and technical theatre education, and students are encouraged to get involved with GBN productions. Club activities include trips to neighboring high school shows, professional theatres downtown, and the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in January.

Express

Express is an auditioned mixed group of advanced singers specializing in a cappella music. In the winter months, Express focuses on holiday and winter repertoire and performs in many school and community events. Throughout the year, Express performs a variety of songs spanning historic and contemporary/popular genres.

Fermata Nowhere

Fermata Nowhere is an auditioned all-women’s a cappella ensemble performing primarily popular, contemporary, and musical theatre genres. Fermata performs at school and community events and co-hosts their concert, “An Evening of A Cappella,” at the end of the year with the all-male group, Ow!

Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra (GSO)

The Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra (GSO) is the co-curricular district orchestra for Glenbrook District 225. String players (grade 10-12) from both Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South High Schools combine each year to form the crux of the Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra. Wind and percussion players from both schools audition to be a part of this group. The literature performed by the GSO is chosen from the standard repertoire for symphonic orchestra; a fall concert and a spring concert are mounted, as well as holiday performances.

Ladies First is an all-female women’s show choir. They perform multiple genres of music, emphasizing on pop and Broadway styles. Ladies First also incorporate dance and staging into several of their numbers.

The Spartan Marching Band is open to any student enrolled in band, choir, or orchestra. This exciting group represents GBN at several marching competitions each season as well as home football games and local parades. All Marching Band members must attend a week of band camp at Camp Henry Horner before school starts in the fall and 4 hours of evening practice a week through late October. Students interested in Marching Band should attend an informational meeting in the spring.

  • Membership requires that students have completed a minimum of one semester in art and maintain a B average.
  • Students must be sophomores or older.
  • Membership requires that the student be currently enrolled in an advanced level art class.
  • Annual membership/renewal fee for each student member is three dollars. Student must reapply for membership each year.
  • Membership is based upon art scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
  • Members must attend eighty percent of all meetings.
  • Members must participate in at least seventy percent of all activities.

Members must act as leaders in the art department.

Orchesis Dance Company

Orchesis is a dance company where freshman-seniors come together to further their dance experience and creative voice. Dancers participate in their annual show formed primarily of student choreographed dances, work with professional guest choreographers, and occasionally perform at other collaborative events such as Illinois High School Dance Festival. Auditions are held in the spring for the following school year.

Pep Band

Pep Band is comprised of freshman through senior students. You must be enrolled in a curricular performing group. The Pep Band performs at home boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball games. The band plays 9-10 games per year. Rehearsals will take place about one hour before each game. ​

Meeting Information: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays 3:45pm
Pom Pon Varsity
The Pom Pon squad performs at athletic competitions and assemblies. The members promote spirit and support Glenbrook North activities. All girls are encouraged to participate in clinics and audition in the spring. Sophomore, Junior and Senior girls are eligible.

GBN Stage crew is the social group for GBN students who are interested in working on stage crew for assemblies, concerts, school productions and special events that occur in the CPA. Our goals are to promote the Fine Arts by providing Technical support for all events in the CPA and recruiting students to be involved in our activities. We also promote learning technical theatre by attending local productions, and workshops and build camaraderie among all fine arts students by sharing technical theatre with them.
