Attendance Office
Excusing My Student From School
If your student needs to leave during the school day, we would kindly request that you put the absence into the Attendance Portal early in the day. This gives our attendance office time to process the absence and notify the student's teacher.
You have three ways to report your absences:
Reporting through PowerSchool
Starting in the 2022-23 school year, families can report student attendance through the PowerSchool Portal. The system allows families to report a daily absence as well as any future dates a student will not be at school. Reporting an absence can be completed in five easy steps:
- Log into your PowerSchool Portal
- Select "Attendance Monitor" from the left navigation pane
- Click "Report New Attendance"
- Enter details about the absence
- Click Submit
Additional details on completing this process are available through the Reporting Absences in PowerSchool knowledge base article.
Please send an email to gbnattendance@glenbrook225.org and include your student’s first and last name, ID#, the date of absence(s), and the reason for the absence.
Phone Call
Please call and include your student’s first and last name, ID#, the date of absence(s), and the reason for the absence.
- A - K = Terri Ryan at (847) 509- 2459
- L - Z = Brittany Paul at (847) 509-7960
Our preferred method is through the portal or email because our attendance office receives that information instantaneously.
Student Illness
- Students experiencing any flu symptoms are encouraged to remain home. Any tests, quizzes and projects can be made up when they have recovered and returned to school.
Arriving Late or Leaving Early Process
- Students who are called out during the school day will need to come to the attendance window for a pass and sign out at the time they are leaving the school.
- If a student is being called out in the middle of a block, an attendance pass will come to the student’s classroom indicating the time of departure. Your student will receive their pass, sign-out at the attendance office and kiosk, and leave our building.
- Students who are returning to school or coming in late should sign in at the kiosk and then report straight to class. If the student arrives later than anticipated, parents/guardians are responsible for notifying attendance through the portal or through gbnattendance@glenbrook225.org.
- Students who fail to sign out will receive an unexcused absence for the classes that they missed.
- Students excused from school must leave the building.
Excused Absences
Excused absences include:
illness (including up to 5 days per school year for mental or behavioral health of the student)attendance at a verified medical or therapeutic appointment (including a victim services provider), observance of a religious holiday or event, death in the immediate family, family emergency,
situations beyond the control of the student as determined by the school board, circumstances that cause reasonable concern to the parent/guardian for the student’s mental, emotional, or physical health or safety, attending a military honors funeral to sound TAPS, attend a civic event, or other reason as approved by the Principal or designee.
For students who are parents, expectant parents, or victims of domestic or sexual violence, an excused absence includes the fulfillment of a parenting responsibility and addressing circumstances resulting from domestic or sexual violence. Students eligible to vote are also excused for up to two hours to vote in a primary, special, or general election.
- Additionally, a student will be excused for up to 5 days in cases where the student’s parent/guardian is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat-support postings. The Board of Education, in its discretion, may excuse a student for additional days relative to such leave or deployment. A student and the student’s parent/guardian are responsible for obtaining assignments from the student’s teachers prior to any excused absences and for ensuring that such assignments are completed by the student prior to the student’s return to school.
- Students who are excused from school may make up work in accordance with Section 2.40.
- For any extended absences not described above, please contact your student’s school counselor.
- If a student accrues excessive excused absences, the school may require verification documentation (e.g. doctor’s note).
