College Resource Center

The philosophy of the College Resource Center is that students select a college based upon fit! Our college counseling curriculum is based upon a developmental model that recognizes that students will possibly change their interests over the course of their high school experience which will impact college choice. Beginning in November of the student's junior year, students and parents will begin their journey with self-exploration that will lead to a "shopping list" of characteristics. Throughout the next 18 months of the program, students and parents can utilize the resources of the College Resource Center and their counselors to promote a well thought out and explored college selection.

College Appointments

Students and parents can schedule appointments to meet with Dr. Boyle by clicking here. Once Mrs. Stoller receives the request, she will reach out to schedule the date and time and provide the Zoom link.

In addition, students seeking academic support services while in college are invited to meet with Mr. Gatchalian, Transition Coordinator, to discuss various options. Mr. Gatchalian's office is located within the Special Education Department on the second floor.

"College Colloquium" will be held on January 30, 2027, at GBS from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Fall College Visits

During the fall semester, over 150 colleges and universities visit Glenbrook North High School. These college visits provide a great opportunity for you to learn more about a particular college within our own building. It is an opportunity for you to learn about a college that you may not have visited, or to ask questions of the admission representative from a college you have already visited. The visits are either question and answer sessions or more formal presentations. It depends upon the number of students present. Seniors and Juniors are invited to attend.

Procedures for Attending College Visits

Visits are scheduled during the first half of each block. Allow approximately 45 minutes per visit. Students must return to their scheduled class at the conclusion of the visit.
It is the student’s responsibility to pre-arrange a class absence with the teacher at least one day prior to the visit. Approval to attend a college visit is at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Student Services cannot excuse you from class.
At the beginning of the block, please report directly to the room where the college visit is to be held. A GBN parent volunteer and the college representative will meet you.
It is essential that you are on time and remain until the end of the representative's presentation so as not to miss important college information or disrupt the representative and other students. If it is not possible for you to attend a college visit, you may contact the representative by phone or email (college rep info is available on Naviance).
Please give the college representative your undivided attention. They may be the individual who will be evaluating your application or speaking on your behalf to an admission committee.
You must sign the attendance sheet when you arrive to the college visit. The Attendance Office will receive a copy of this sheet to verify your presence.
At the conclusion of the visit, you will be issued a special pass to verify that you were in attendance. It should be given to your teacher upon your return to class.

Student Athletes

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is the organization through which the nation's colleges and universities speak and act on athletic matters. Click here for schools sponsoring each of the sports in which the NCAA conducts a championship.

In order to participate in intercollegiate athletics at an NCAA Division I or Division II institution and receive athletically based financial aid, student athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and meet academic and amateurism eligibility standards. The Guide for the College Bound Athlete will help you understand the NCAA rules for becoming a college student-athlete. Register with the Eligibility Center in your junior year of high school. Send your official ACT or SAT scores to the NCAA using code 9999. In the spring of your junior year, request your transcript through the NCAA Eligibility Center website (the NCAA requires 6 semesters of grades that are completed in June of junior year). At the end of your senior year, the NCAA will need your final transcript (all 8 semesters) as proof of graduation.

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) offers 23 national championships in fall, winter and spring sports. If you wish to participate in NAIA sports you must register with the NAIA to have your eligibility determined. Send your official ACT or SAT scores to the NAIA by using the code 9876. In the spring of your senior year, request GBN to send your official final transcript, once your graduate, to the NAIA. The NAIA requires an official transcript upon graduation from high school. Transcript Order Process

Graduated, transferred or withdrawn students.

Transcripts for former GBN and GBE students are processed through Parchment, the Glenbrook's official agent for sending alumni transcripts. (This process replaces the school as the source for transcripts.) Parchment is a highly respected source for transcript submission among college and scholarship agencies and is both secure and fast. Parchment may charge a fee per transcript, which must be paid via a credit/debit card at the time of the request.

To request a transcript, go to Parchment.com. You will initially need to establish a secure personal account using a valid email address, if you do not already have an account. (If you have trouble establishing or entering a Parchment account, use their Contact Us link for assistance. GBN is not able to assist you in navigating the Parchment website.) Once this is completed, immediate access to make requests will be available. (PLEASE NOTE: If you do not remember your GBN ID number, you may type in any 6 digits. A registration code is not required.)

Health Records For All Former Students

Graduated, transferred or withdrawn students.

Health Records (all classes), are made through the GBN registrar by completing the fillable Glenbrook North Health Record Request Form. This request may only be originated by the alumni requesting the health record, unless he or she is under the age of 18, and must be accompanied with a photocopy of your State Driver's License or State ID. Records are mailed within 10 business days from date of receipt of request.
All requests must be made in writing - no phone requests or faxes can be accepted.

Financial Aid

When determining ability, families need to start at the federal and institutional level. These two groups determine ability, and subsequently, eligibility for financial assistance. The federal methodology is the starting point for determining the family's ability to pay for college. In addition, each college has different factors that will be involved in the calculation of the family's demonstrated ability to pay.

Federal methodology is a calculation that determines the amount of money the family will be expected to contribute. Most federal, state, and local aid is awarded based upon the eligibility as determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) derived through the federal methodology calculation. The Expected Family contribution can be defined as, "the amount of money expected from the family to contribute to the college education." Each college will establish a cost of attendance figure that is then used in determining the student's financial need. The following equation for determining financial need is:

Calculation of the EFC will include information regarding parents' income and assets and the student's income and assets. Other facts such as total number of household members and total number of household members in college will also have an impact in determining the EFC.

The U.S. Department of Education's financial aid estimator, FAFSA4caster, will calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) – the indicator used by colleges to estimate your family's ability to contribute towards the cost of your education. It will provide an early estimate of your eligibility to receive federal student aid. You can easily transition from FAFSA4caster to FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) when you are ready to file in January of your senior year.

Test Information

As educators (as well as the media) continue to discuss, debate, and challenge the perceived advantages and disadvantages of the ACT/SAT, it is important that you take the examinations seriously, while realizing that they are not the single most important factor that will get you admitted or denied to a college.

It is recommended that students begin taking these tests during the spring of their junior year. Students have plenty of opportunity to take the tests. ACT’s are offered in February, April, June, September, October, and December and SAT’s in January, March, April, May, June, October, November and December. Therefore, taking these tests in October or December of your junior year for practice is simply not necessary! As a statewide initiative, all juniors will be administered the SAT in April during the school day. This SAT can be used for college admissions.

Students eligible to participate in the school district's Free/Reduced Lunch program should see Ms. Stoller or Dr. Boyle for possible fee waivers for the ACT/SAT.

PLEASE NOTE: Glenbrook North High School does NOT record test scores on transcripts or applications. It is the student's responsibility to request the testing company to send their scores directly to the college(s).

Standby test-taking is not permitted. If you miss the last registration deadline, or if your paper registration has been returned unprocessed without enough time to resubmit it, you may be able to go online to request a waitlist status. This status may be available from the last registration deadline up until five days before test day. Unregistered individuals will not be admitted to the test center under any circumstances. Test registration on test day at the test center is not available.

Scholarships

General Information

Start with the Financial Aid Office of each college to which you have applied.
Access sites such as FastWeb.com, Scholarships.com, etc., to conduct your own scholarship search.
Check the scholarship list in Schoolinks to learn about scholarships opportunities and qualifications.
In February, students can apply for the local scholarships sponsored by businesses in the community. The scholarship application can be found in Schoolinks.
File the FAFSA form before your college's deadline to be eligible for financial aid.

GBN Local Scholarship

Each year several Community organizations and companies as well as families provide scholarship opportunities for Glenbrook North students. A single online application enters seniors into competition for these scholarships that are offered through the Glenbrook North local scholarship program. Scholarships include, but are not limited to, the Northbrook Civic Foundation, Northbrook Woman's Club Foundation, local feeder schools, the Glenbrook Education Association, our Glenbrook High School Foundation, and more!

The 2026 Glenbrook North Local Scholarship application will be available in January. Emails will be sent to students and parents when the application is available.
